U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

HUD is a U.S. government agency that works to increase home ownership and supports homebuyers. HUD offers free or low-cost foreclosure prevention counseling throughout the country.

HOPE NOW Alliance:

 

HOPE NOW is an alliance between counselors, mortgage companies and investors to create a unified, coordinated plan to reach and help homeowners facing financial hardship stay in their homes.

As stated above, Wachovia is now part of Wells Fargo. There are numerous other banks across the country that have failed with Georgia being the leading state so far as the state with the largest number of failed banks---approximately 30 so far since November 2009.

 

The FDIC is often appointed as receiver for failed banks. This page contains useful information for the customers and vendors of these banks.
