Neighbor burglaries

The home at 9514 W. Electra had the garage broken into recently while the family was home asleep in bed!!!! They stole golf clubs, bikes, and jacked up the car and stole all 4 wheels. The sheriff told the Shipps that this was the 5th such crime in recent weeks and now there has been at least one since. They get in by breaking into vehicles parked in the driveway and using the remote door opener. Another way in is by drilling a hole at the top of the garage door and using a wire to pull the emergency cord to open the door. Don't leave remotes in vehicles parked outside. Tie the emergency cord to your garage door up and out of the way so it cannot be pulled. One can also turn off garage doors to opening by remotes at the switch in the garage. When you leave for a few days it is also wise to use the deadbolt lock on your garage door. Then they can't possibly open the door from the outside. We all need to be very vigilant to help keep our neighborhood crime free. We are definitely prime targets due to the large sized lots, privacy, and easy street access. Tell neighbors when you are planning to leave so they can be more nosy then usual!! We love nosy neighbors. They give us a feeling of security.
