Temporary trailer parks allowed during Ike cleanup
GALVESTON, Texas ?— Temporary trailer parks will be allowed in Galveston to house hundreds of students planning a working spring break for Hurricane Ike cleanup.
Several pastors asked the Galveston City Council to allow temporary recreational vehicle parking in areas not designed as trailer parks, such as church parking lots.
The Galveston County Daily News reported Monday that Pastor James Booth of Island Community Church has 1,300 students heading for Galveston in March.
Booth last week appealed to the city council to allow for creation of temporary trailer parks for RVs, so Ike volunteers could have a place to stay.
The council Thursday agreed to amend city code to allow such temporary parks for 14 months.
Ike swamped parts of Galveston when it slammed Southeast Texas on Sept. 13.
