HISTORY OF FIRE STATION #41 located at 805 Pearl Street, 77029 Station #41 was built in the industrial section east of downtown in 1955 at the corner of Pear and Amarillo. Station #41 received a proclamation from the Governor in the early 70's. No story about station #41 would be complete without talking about the Houston Distribution Warehouse fires in 1995 that burned for 7 days. Houston Distribution Warehouse Fire June 24, 1995 [Martina Cartwright, TSU Environmental Justice Attorney] A spectacular fire on June 24, 1995, destroyed a huge warehouse in the Houston Distribution warehouse complex at 8550 Market in far east Houston. Fire continued to flare up in the ruins for days. Pumpers remained on the scene for almost two weeks. Within 36 hours after the last pumper was withdrawn, a second fire razed an adjacent warehouse, and post-fire operations starter all over again. Only this time, pumpers stayed at the scene for more than 30 days. AT 8:33 in the morning on June 24, 1995, east end firefighters responded to a report of fire at the Houston Distribution warehouse complex at 8550 Market. It was not long before thick, black smoke poured through the roof and rose hundreds of feet into the sky. There was no problem finding the fire which went on to seven alarms. Two-thirds of the firefighters on duty that day battled the blaze throughout the day and into the evening. It was the first 7-11 fire since the Woodway Square conflagration in 1979.
