Park construction to close NE 172nd Avenue. Clark County will close Northeast 172nd avenue between ne 119th and 99th streets for approximately four weeks starting 9/8/8 Monday. The closure will allow the contractor working on the Hockinson Meadows Community Park project to widen NE 172nd Avenue for a left turn lane at the park entrance and install culvert under the road. Local residential traffic will be allowed within the closure area north and south of the new park entrance. Mail/package delivery, school buses and emergency services vehicles will also be allowed to access this area. Clark County will post warning and detour signs. Motorists may use either NE Ward Road or NE 152nd avenue as alternate routes. Hockinson Meadows Community Park is located on NE 172nd Ave at NE 119th street in the Brush Prairie area. Phase one construction began in July 2008, and is scheduled to be complete in spring 2009.
Camp Bonneville Advisory Group Vacancy
The Board of Clark County Commissioners is calling for applications from Clark County residents to fill a vacancy on the Camp Bonneville Advisory Group. If selected, the applicant will be appointed for a two-year term.
Formed in February 2007, this group represents a diverse range of community interests. Members will be asked to advise county staff on effective ways to share information about project activities and milestones as the site is cleaned up and redeveloped as a regional park. Members meet quarterly, with additional project information provided by mail and e-mail. They will be informed of all activity at the site, and engaged in discussion about project issues concerning both cleanup activities and future reuse opportunities. To be considered, applicant should submit a letter of interest and resume to Jennifer Clark, Board of Clark County Commissioners, P.O Bo 5000, Vancouver, Washington 98666-5000, or send an e-mail to Jennifer.clark@clark.wa.gov. Commissioners will also accept applications by fax at (360)397-6058. Deadline for applications is SEPTEMBER 23, 2008.
Free Harvest Fun day September 27th at Museum
A pie-eating contest and traditional craft demonstrations will be part of the free Harvest Fun Day at the Clark County Historical Museum. The event will be from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 9/27, at 1511 Main St. The family program also features corn-shucking contests, the Fort Vancouver Antique Farm Equipment Association exhibition, scarecrow making, live music. Blacksmithing, Spinning, quilting, Wood carving and pumpkin decorating. Pie-eating contests for adults and children start at 11:30am (they?’re real berry pies) Contestants can not use their hands.
S.A.L.T Times Newsletter- Online Safety Tips for Seniors
The September 2008 S.A.L.t Times (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) newsletter has some excellent information from the WA State Attorney General?’s Office on how to protect yourself form on-line scams.
