Community University Leadership Training
Community University Leadership Training is an opportunity for neighborhood residents to strengthen their organization through participation in workshops, classes and other forums. Neighborhood Services provides training that increases a neighborhood's ability to identify and prioritize problems, get organized around solutions, and manage the long-term results. Certificates of completion are issued at the end of each series of classes.

Several new classes make this series worthwhile for those who are new to community involvement and experienced leaders! Featured classes include Government and Neighborhoods (Thursday, 2/1, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Accessing Government Resources (Thursday, 2/8, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Strategic Planning (Thursday, 2/15, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Good Neighbor Relations (Thursday, 3/1, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Quality of life Study (Thursday, 3/8, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), and Discovering Charlotte's Hidden Treasures (Thursday, 3/15, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM). Neighborhood Leadership II

This series takes leadership to a higher level for those who are ready for the challenge! Learn how to engage and work with various stakeholders for maximum neighborhoods benefits. Classes will include Engaging Neighborhood Stakeholders (Thursday, 4/5, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), ABCs of Zoning and Development (Thursday, 4/12, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Mobilizing Youth for Neighborhoods (Thursday, 4/19, 6:30 PM -8:30 PM), Effective Communication (Wednesday, 4/25, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), and Communicating with Government and the Media (Wednesday, 5/2, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM).

Organizational Tools for Success I

A toolkit full of ideas, tips and techniques for developing successful neighborhood organizations. From creating a shared vision and mission to developing a solid neighborhood structure. This series will help participants build the foundation for an effective neighborhood organization. Classes include Neighborhood Organizing (Monday, 2/5, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Developing Vision and Mission Statements (Monday, 2/12, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Conflict Management (Monday, 2/19, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Developing By-laws (Monday, 2/26, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Board of Elections (Monday, 3/5, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), and Can Do Committees (Monday, 3/12, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM).

Organizational Tools for Success II

For those who realize that "success is a journey, not a destination, " this series is a natural progression in learning after completion of Organizational Tools for Success I (not a pre-requisite, but we recommend you attend). Classes include Effective Meetings (Monday, 4/2, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Project Management (Monday, 4/16, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Asset Mapping (Monday, 4/23, 6:30 PM -8:30 PM), Maximizing Diversity in Neighborhoods (Monday, 4/30, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Newsletters and Communication Strategies (Monday, 5/7, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), and Group Project and Presentations (Monday, 5/14, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM).

Using Resources

Time, talent and treasures are all recognized as valuable resources that neighborhoods can draw upon for help and support. If you want to learn more about increasing neighborhood participation, generating fundraising ideas or basic grant writing and establishing a budget, then this is the series for you. Courses include Increasing Neighborhood Participation (Tuesday, 5/15, 6:30 PM -8:30 PM), Fundraising Ideas and Opportunities (Tuesday, 5/22, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Grant Writing (Thursday, 5/31, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), Financial Management (Tuesday, 6/5, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM), and Considering 501c3 (Tuesday, 6/12, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM).
