You may have noticed two Block Watch signs in our neighborhood. YES, we do have a block watch group. Along with the Louisville Police we are working on ?“watching over?” our homes.
How are we doing this you may ask? Block watch groups consist of a captain and co-captains to be in touch with the police officer in charge of block watches. The captain covers the entire neighborhood and co-captains cover each street. We have several co-captains but we could use more to make sure each street has a representative. A co-captain is someone you can contact with concerns, with questions, and can let them know if you will be out of town.

But the NUMBER ONE rule is to call the police first when you see something suspicious. We do not replace the police. The phone number to dispatch is 574-2111 or call 911. You can call anonymously if you want but just call!!

Our goal is to form a solid group with the use of email communications and meetings with a police officer to deter problems in Regency Woods. Meetings are held every three months with the police rep present. We have the opportunity to meet our neighbors, talk about our concerns, ask questions, and inquire about previous problems. We receive information about what is happening in our area, tips on how to avoid becoming a victim, and answers to our questions.

Tips we have received:
1. People have been seen taking pictures of resident?’s garages and returning later to gain entry. So close your garage door at all times.
2. Also along these lines garage door openers have been taken from car unlocked during the day and have gained entry later to the home. So lock you car at all times.
3. Lights can deter crimes so leave your outside lights on at night.
4. If someone comes to your door that you do not know take the phone with you to the door, tell the person you are calling the police if they do not go away.
5. Clip your purse into your cart at the grocery store and keep it closed. Purses are easy targets in stores to grab, to take small items out of while you are looking away. Put your purse in the car first when putting your groceries into your car. Recently a man drove by a woman putting her groceries in her car, he grabbed the purse, drove away, and blew her a kiss.
