HERE IS A WAY THAT EACH OF US CAN EASILY HELP ENHANCE THE BEAUTY OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
On trash days, we all put our trash out on the street for pick-up in various containers. Some of us use trash cans of various varieties while some use plastic bags. I believe that trash cans have several distinct disadvantages as compared to plastic bags:
1. Trash cans require periodic cleaning to avoid odor and attraction of bugs and insects.
2. Emptied cans left out for the rest of the day are a dead give-a-way that no one is home.
3. On windy days, the emptied cans and lids blow all over the streets and yards, giving quite an unattractive appearance.
Several years ago, we discovered that a "yard/leaf" sized plastic bag made a great liner for our trash can. Now, on trash day, we simply remove the filled bag from the can in our garage, tie the top, and put it (them) out on the street. After the trash-haulers come by, no small debris remains in the street, there are no cans to return to the garage, no cleaning, no odor, no bugs, and of importance from a security standpoint, no signals that we are not home.
