Update from Doug Byrd, Manager
Last month the Association Boards established a Landscape Advisory Committee to research, develop and recommend improvements with regard to landscape issues. This action reflects a renewed dedication to protect and improve the quality of our trees and landscaping infrastructure.
In addition to establishing this committee, the Boards hired Master Gardener consultant Judy McClure to augment our base of expertise. Judy comes highly qualified and is the UC Master Gardener Program Coordinator. The committee members include Judy, RCA Board member Karen Burkhardt, Alpine Landscaping's Scott Sharpe and Association staff members Stacey Swett and myself.
Trees: Most of Riverlake's trees are considered mature and now require more aggressive attention. To help us properly maintain our tree inventory, the Committee is developing a Tree Maintenance Master Plan for consideration by the Boards. This Plan will provide us with standards of care, a timetable and budget guidance.
Landscape Improvements: A Landscape Quality Improvement Plan is also under development. Its aim is to provide Riverlake with a blueprint for improving the overall quality of our landscaping efforts. It will address project priorities, gate entrance and area themes as well as standards of care.
The Boards and staff do not want to settle for landscape status quo and we are confident that these new landscaping efforts will, over time, result in a noticeable improvement in landscape quality.
