Robson Neighbors Meet

Nov 02, 1999

On July 21, 1999, 26 resident participants met at Robson Elementary School on Pueblo for Community Conversation I, part of the Building a Healthier Mesa program. "Conversation" was facilitated by 19 staff members, ably directed by Debbie Driscol of the City of Mesa Neighborhood & Community Assistance Office.

Following a brief welcome and introductions, a brainstorming session identified the assets of our neighborhood. Participants eagerly recognized that we like our neighborhood because it is safe, well-maintained, neat and clean and that neighbors care about one another. It is close to the freeway to give excellent access to other parts of our Valley of the Sun, close to shopping centers and features a beautiful, well-maintained park. We are proud of our elementary school and Neighborhood Watch is active.

On that positive base, the group also identified challenges that the neighborhood faces. Debbie assisted us in grouping the challenges or concerns into general categories: crime prevention, safety, crime, traffic control/road conditions, and community appearance.

Participants formed Community Action Teams, selecting the general category in which each had primary interest. The Action Teams met, each selected a Team Leader, and each set a time and date for Action Team meetings.

Mesa City staff members presented updates for their respective departments and fielded general questions.

September 9 was the date selected for Community Conversation II, again at Robson School.
