Roseland Heights Community Association, (9 members) met with Alderman Lyle June 24 to get answers to these questions:
1. Why was the park (Abbott, 49 E. 95th Street) being rezoned in 2008?
2. Who made the mistake in the rezoning of CPS property and why can't that agency change it back to original zone? We don't need a new zone; we need a correction!
3. Was RS-3 Resident Single Unit (detached house) District the original zone for the property at 9652 S. Michigan Ave. before mistake?
4. What is the zone of other public high school property?
5. Why did you (the Alderman) on April 22, 2009 file this application, could not CPS (BOE) and the city of Chicago do this them self?
6. Is there some other zone other than RS-3 Resident Single Unit (detached house) District that will facilitate the improvements to Harlan High School and it's grounds?
7. Why would The Chicago Park District agree to this zone change, part of the change area is a park?
8. Does the zone change from open green space decrease our property values? (yes it does)
The Alderman did not answer any of these questions and on question #7 she referred us to Scott Borstein of Neal & Leroy LLL which is a nationally known law firm recognized for it's experience & knowledge in the area of eminent domain, zoning, development and land use. For a simple zone change it seems the powers that be have some big guns on their side! You need a law firm to correct a mistake in zoning? Why?. We have concerns about the preservation and protection of our parkland from development.
