Rosemont West Neighborhood Association

V.I.P. Report

Apr 29, 2001

Shortly after our last newsletter went out, our neighborhood was hit by a rash of burglaries, including two at night, and the burglaries of three businesses along Broadway. In one of the Broadway burglaries, a business was set on fire and damaged by the burglars. The crimes do not appear to be part of an on-going pattern and have not continued--the Police tell us that we do not have a serious problem. In fact, the TPD crime statistics for our neighborhood for the last two months are good. There has been one burglary and a handful of minor crimes.

In a recent burglary, the residents were on vacation and had not given their neighbors any information on where they had gone or when they would return, leaving the Police in the difficult situation of trying to find some way to secure the home and contact the owners. Officer Kingman requests that if you are going to be away for any length of time, let one of your neighbors know how to contact you in case of an emergency.

Several benches at Bonillas Elementary School were destroyed by vandals the night of Friday, Feb 16th. The vandals apparently took a sledge hammer to the benches. If anyone has information about this crime, please contact the Police or the School (318-2120). No one should be loitering around the schools after dark. If you see suspicious vehicles or persons, call 911 immediately!
