I am sending a new, updated copy of Community Energy Project¹s Spring and
Summer schedule of public Lead Poisoning Prevention Workshops. Please note that our guidelines have changed and we will now only be able to offer Lead Poisoning Prevention Kits to income-qualified Portland residents. Here is the suggested text for a community calendar or newsletter announcement, followed by the current schedule:
"Lead poisoning can cause brain and organ damage, learning disabilities and
other serious heath problems for young children. The most common sources of
lead poisoning are found in and around homes. To help our community keep
their homes and families safe from lead hazards, Community Energy Project
offers free Lead Poisoning Prevention workshops. Workshops discuss: the
effects of lead poisoning in children; specific sources of lead poisoning;
how to test for lead; and prevention tips we can use to fight lead
poisoning. Income qualified Portland residents will receive free Lead
Poisoning Prevention Kits valued at approximately $45 including cleaning
supplies, LeadCheck?? test swabs, and more. Free childcare is provided.
Please call CEP at (503) 284-4962 to pre-register for a workshop today!
(Primary funding for this program comes from the Portland Bureau of Housing
and Community Development¹s Community Initiatives Program and the Portland
Water Bureau)."
