Denver Safer City works with youth and the community to prevent violence and crime. This program started in 1993 because of the summer of violence. There are several fassits to this organization including, Community Grants, Youth Leadership programs, Safe Nite Curfew and Diversion, Community Education and involvment.

Community Grants:
There is $500,000 to be used by the community for programs to improve the neighborhood. They would like to see neighborhood associations such as ours get their share of the pie. The application process starts in Feb., 2000. There is a training given to instruct people on how to apply for these funds. Money is available for just about anything, including mentoring programs, youth projects, or anything that will benefit the community.
Youth Leadership:
The primary purpose is to allow youth to meet with local and national leaders to exchange ideas on anti-violence issues selected by the youth. The youth are taught skills to assist them with making significant contributions to solving problems with their community.
Curfew program:
The primary purpose is to divert youth from criminal activity and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime and/or violence. The curfew times are: Sunday ?– Thursday 11:00pm to 5:00am and Friday ?– Saturday 12:00am to 5:00am ?– They try to give them a safe environment. Look for ideas on how to help kids stay out of gangs.

Community Education:
They try to provide information to the community on any topic that is import to the community.

Youth Employment
This is for kids 14-16 years of age, in school. They help the kids find work through a network of employers in the neighborhood and community working at minimum wage.

Community Participation:
You just need to participate, this like all organization only succeed if the community supports it. If you feel it is a good idea, participate.

Money & Services:
If any one would like to serve on the review board to say how the money is distributed, you should volunteer! Community members decide how things are done. Volunteers are needed.
