SNAPP Minutes
April 21, 2011
The meeting was called to order at 6:32 PM followed by a moment of silence. All officers were present for roll call.
The March minutes were not approved. Some members were unaware that they had been posted on the SNAPP website and others did not recall the secretary's announcement that they would be posted and did not take notice of the web address posted on the board.
Vice President, Maureen Fisher, gave a report on Legislative issues that affect Tucson Homeowners and passed out information on the proposed Homeowners Tax. The AZ Corporation Commission gave their approval for a Utility Tax increase. She also noted that a recent newspaper article showing that there are several applications for facilities to grow and dispense Medical Marijuana on Tucson's south side.
Sergeant Broderick gave the TPD Report. he addressed some issues that SNAPP President Joe Miller has in the Midvale Park neighborhood. He announced that Captain Timpf is still looking for neighborhood leaders who want to participate in a Division Advisory Committee, DAC. Anyone interested should send Captain Timpf or him an e-mail request. He addressed some recent homicides in town and said TPD is going after repeat taggers noting several taggers are responsible for tens of thousands of dollars.
Maggie Gerring gave the Treasures Report. There is no change from last month.
Ken Badyl , an investigator from the County Attorney's Office gave a talk on how to avoid being a victim of Identity Theft
David Brolsm from Pima Council On Aging gave a short presentation on educating seniors on how to protect themselves from being a victim of Identity and Medicare fraud. He asked neighborhood leaders to sign up if they want him to come to their N/A meetings.
Neighborhood Round Table :
Maureen Fisher, Cherry Avenue - N/A Stuffed Animal Project, for children whose parent [s] go to jail, is doing well. N/A is having a membership drive and they are working with GPC on graffiti.
Margaret Ward, Barrio Kroger Lane, The N/A is continuing work on park improvements and they had a fund raiser for neighbors who had a house fire.
Mike Taylor, Midvale Park, N/A had a neighborhood cleanup and graffiti removal project. Through a donation from Wal-Mart the N/A was able to provide Easter for the neighborhood elementary school kids.
Joe Miller and David Densmore announced Yolanda Herrera had been elected Community Co-Chair of UCAB
Maggie Gerring, Park Avenue, announced the opening of Costco and the success of a dance.
Yolanda Herrera , Sunny Side N/A, announced 18th Annual All American Awards Ceremony to be held May 13 honoring over 750 students for the Sunnyside Unified School District and gave a brief history. Mother's Day Tea to be held Sat. May 7th at the Peace Garden by invitation only. Invited everyone to come out to the El Pueblo Farmer's Market where they could also purchase Arts & Crafts by local artists as gifts for Mother's Day. Several other invitations only events were also held in the neighborhood. Invited all to the Art's Show at the Valencia Library on April 26th . The N/A is working on grants from Safe Routes To School, and sidewalk improvements through the RTA , improvements on Liberty to Irvington to Valencia and Nebraska to 12th Ave. N/A is also working with the Watershed Management to create other NH improvements with other NH's in Tucson. Sandra Fimbres, Bravo Park, N/A is working with neighborhood businesses to help increase interest in the neighborhood association
Beryl Baker, Santa Cruz Southwest, announced the neighborhood cleanup went well and they are having a Urban Gardening project on May 12TH from 6 to 7:30.
David Densmore, Elvira, announced that the tree planting and dedication for the walking path on Los Reales was very successful, volunteers from the neighborhood and the Ward 1 office planted 110 trees in about an hour and a half.
Josh Simpson, Quik Trip, announced a new store was opening on Ajo Road west of Interstate 19 Thursday, April 28TH and invited everyone to go to the grand opening.
Several members joined in saying that they would like the round table at the beginning of the meeting as it had been in the past.
SNAPP Secretary, David Densmore, announced that the minutes would be posted on the SNAPP website and will be sent along with the link to the web site, to all SNAPP members on the e-mail list to review prior to the next meeting. www.neighborhoodlink.com/SNAPP
