Minutes For SNAPP Meeting September 15TH

The Meeting was called to order at 6:23PM
The meeting began with a discussion of the July and August Meeting Minutes. Les Pierce made a motion to accept the July Meeting Minutes as written . The motion was approved by a majority of voting members. Sandra Fimbres made a motion to approve the August Meeting Minutes with amendments. This motion was approved by a majority of voting members.
Sgt Martin Brodrick gave the police report. At this time nobody has been assigned to take his place at future meetings. The Division has been busy due to recent storms, a murder investigation and an increase in stolen vehicles. Officers from other divisions were brought in to help because of the increased problems caused by the storms. He gave praise to the work that SNAPP Members do, calling us a great group, and reminded us that we all share common issues and he encourages us to share ideas.
Amy Santos , Representative from the Ward 1 Office, began by thanking Marty for all the work he does. She discussed the changes that Pima College is making to enrollment starting in 2012 and invited everyone to attend a forum on the 17TH of September. She talked about our water and 1-4-dioxane and suggested we look at the Tucson Water Website.
Yolanda Herrera announced that UCAB, the Unified Community Advisory Board, will have a meeting on Wednesday, October 19TH that also deals with the 1-4-dioxane. She asked who was responsible for notifying SNAPP about liquor licenses and if the SNAPP President or Secretary had written any letters of protest to the State Liquor Board. Maggie Gerring said that it is up to each individual neighborhood to make those reports. The secretary stated that there has been no request made for that purpose. Yolanda Herrera asked SNAPP to support protest of a liquor license in National Cities neighborhood. Motion to support denied by a 5-4 vote.
Discussion about the proposed updated SNAPP bylaws was held. A motion was made to "accept the bylaws as written" by Les Pierce and seconded by Dave Densmore. Vote to accept By-Laws as written passed 6-3.
Round Table
Cherry Ave reported they're still working on the crosswalk. The Pima Public Library will sponsor the Sgt Woolridge graffiti unit on Make a Difference Day. A new app for smart phones is available for reporting graffiti, info will be available at the Quincie Douglas Library on 10/22/11 from 2:00 to 4:30.
Barrio Kroger Lane is having a celebration on Sat 10/1/11 @ 10:00 a.m. for the new park.
Santa Cruz Southwest reported their neighborhood has been quiet and that there are garden plots are still available for adoption.
Arroyo Chico has a much needed house coming down; and reported that a fly over will take place at next Uof A football game.
Cherry Ave Seniors are working on a P&R grant to be able to paint tiles for the center and are encouraging children to decorate them.
Sunnyside is having their Night Out Celebration on 10/4/11 and are planning a big celebration in the park with information booths; a bicycle ride and a peace conference in Jan is also in the plans for them.
Bravo Park passed out printed info for their neighborhood**sorry I cannot find mine so please let me know so this can be amended.
Enchanted Hills had 26 members at their last meeting and are holding elections on Sat
Elvira has the lights they've been working on for over 5 years going up. They are discussing creating a cleanup committee for the walking path.
Midvale is having a clean up every Sat from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Walmart has partnered with them to adopt a park at the wash behind them.
South Park is not having a Night Out celebration this year but there is construction starting soon on the widening of 36th street @ freeway. Walmart will coming to their neighborhood. The Literacy Council is doing well, offers computer classes and drop in GED classes 2 weekdays & Sat at Quincie Douglas.
Ideas for future meetings were discussed, Joe will peruse some of the suggestions.
Dave Densmore volunteered to chair the Oct meeting.
