About SPAVA

This is a nonprofit taxexempt organization dedicated to develop a better society by creating the spirit of success among our youth by nonviolent methods. We are teaching that success is a journey in self-improvement and not self-aggrandizement. We are teaching to emulate the best in others. The mentors act as role models and talk about hard work that leads to satisfaction. We are dedicated to instill pride and joy in the minds of the youth by demonstrating the value of giving and sharing. We are involved in discussions to open new channels of communication, negotiation and self-advocacy. We are trying to find opportunities for our youth to express themselves freely. We are convinced of the need to "like ourselves for who we are". We are participatin in the local schools to have "conversation with the students". We are learning about persistence, perseverance and resilience by learning the lives of the Nobel peace laureates. Respect, honor and integrity are the core principles of our message. We are helping the students to form SPAVA clubs in the respective schools. We are giving scholarships in the name of Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi to those students who write a qualifying essay and participate in a project that demonstrates brotherhood/sisterhood or promotes nonviolence. We have formed alliance with Volunteer Talent Center, University of Louisville, Spalding University, Archdiocese of Louisville, Walden Theater and Junior Achievement. Our board of directors is seeking more mentors to help in our efforts to promote our children to succeed.

Objectives

Promote nonviolence in the schools
Promote the joy of hard work
Promote respect, honor and integrity
To learn to express without exploding
Teach the value of controlled aggression
To change a heart
Learn the value of giving and sharing
Learn resilience and perseverance

This society will act as a magazine whose pages will be attractive to our youth. We are hopeful that our youth will fill its pages with stories of success by nonviolent methods and thus carry the torch of nonviolence through the next millennium. We believe that by student participation in the projects of the society we will empower the students to find expression of their emotions in a nonviolent way. Involvement of the mentors will signify their interests in helping our youth towards a peaceful society. Please join today and demonstrate your efforts to bring awareness to the community for the need of helping our youth in a Socratic method than preaching and teaching.
