10th Year Anniversary !!!!!!! 1994 - 2004

It has been 10 years this month that we put our first news letter out. The first edition was 700 letters and eventually went to around 2000.
As we have lost houses over the years and neighbors who helped hand out the news letter moved we are now down to about 700-1000 a month.


When we first started our goal was to ?“inform, involve, and improve ?“the hood.
When we first started our main concern was getting the burnt houses down, so my friend Roberta and her husband Gary went around the neighborhood and video taped burnt out houses, talked to businesses, and neighbors as to how they felt about the neighborhood and sent this to Mayor Archer and D.P.W. Within a year the 65 houses were down that we asked for.

Roberta and I spent many a day before Council on various issues.

As block clubs were started I met Pauline who has the oldest one here and with her knowledge we had 35 going in a short time. She is also my walking partner in handing out the news letter and going down town on the bus with me to get information I needed .

I have met others like Delores who surprises me with little gifts. She thinks she?’s a pest, but not really!!

It hasn?’t always been good. One of our saddest days was when Ron of 3 Stars Market was murdered after many years in the Community.

And good times when we had Easter egg hunts, Fall Festival,Halloween party, etc.

We have participated in many clean-ups, and this is where I met another special friend named Janice. She .came by about 5 years ago on clean sweep and wanted to know where she could dump her truck load of trash. We?’ve been dumping trash together ever since.

There are many organizations we have worked with such as Hope Park Association members, Eliza Howell Neighborhood Council, members, Salvation Army, Thea Bowman Health Center and many others. I need to mention the many City workers that have assisted us, some time after many calls but it worked !! Thanks Ms. Hilton also.
