SPNA Meeting Minutes 6-4-2007

Quincie Douglas Neighborhood Center

Following the "Summer Selebration" featuring a light supper shared with neighbors, the meeting was called to order at 6:50 p.m. by Maggie Gerring, co-chair. Introductions were made and the dues basket was passed. The minutes of the May meeting were read and approved.

Officer Lapedus presented the police report. The tactical gang unit is targeting specific areas. Grants have been renewed to affect the South Park area and 2-3 officers per night will be deployed in this sector. Another officer has been added during the day and officers are paying close attention to Quincie Douglas Library, Neighborhood Center and pool and Silverlake Park. It is very important for residents to report suspicious activity. Residents complained about cars speeding on 37th and 38th streets between Park and Euclid, especially during rush hour.

Representatives from City of Tucson Environmental Services presented a fun and educational program about recycling.

Attention was called to a list of announcements printed on the agenda. Lisa Langford, principal of Holladay School, added that the school will be serving free breakfast and lunch for children age 18 and under during the month of June (7:30-8:00 a.m. and 12:00-12:30 p.m.). Abe Marques added that construction has begun along Kino Parkway between Silverlake and 22nd St. to add water retention basins. In addition, he said 22nd St. between Kino Parkway and the interstate will be upgraded in the next five years and a Citizens' Advisory Committee will be needed to monitor this project.
