The South Park Neighborhood Association is implementing a local cleanup program for the South Park area. It is important to the SPNA membership to maintain a safe, beautiful, and healthy environment for us all to live in. In order to facilitate this goal we are asking for help from our local churches in 2 ways. First, we are asking each church to compile a list of its elderly or disabled members that can use some help in maintaining the appearance of their front yards and lots. The property can be rental or owned, but it must be the residence of an elderly or disabled person that does not have younger able-bodied individuals also living at the home. Secondly, we ask that each church also ask for male volunteers to assist in the cleanup effort, and submit a list of their names and contact information. These will not be lengthy cleanup sessions only held at particular days or times. Instead our goal is to compile a master list of healthy and able men in the South Park neighborhood that would be willing to donate a small portion of their available time to help their fellow church and community members.
The program is simple. For example, if a volunteer has an available Saturday morning coming up, we ask that he phone Greg Stuessel, head of the Cleanup Crew, and let him know of his availability. Greg will then phone others on the list and try to put together an impromptu cleanup crew to target a yard or lot that morning. Minimally there will be at least 2 men at any one time, and hopefully through this method we may garner the assistance of many more.
Cleanup sessions are not limited to a particular day or time, though they must be between the hours of 7am-7pm to comply with city ordinance. Anyone interested should contact the South Park Neighborhood Association spna@swbell.net or contact Greg Stuessel 838-6929.
