On Sunday night/Monday morning July 8, 2002, there was a fire in the alley behind Wilson Avenue close to Mound Street. Calls from several concerned neighbors brought in the Columbus Fire Department. The fire started in a pile of trash which included an old mattress. We do not know at this time if the fire was set or if it was the result of sparks from fire crackers. The blockwatch distributed fliers asking that parents do not allow their children to ignite fire crackers on or near grass, trees, or refuse, and not to light them after 10 P.M.This is really important since the ground is so dry due to lack of rain. The blockwatch's request was met very positively.
