The Sacramento County Alliance of Neighborhoods (SCAN) was formed in 1989 to improve the quality of life in Sacramento neighborhoods. The organization which is made up of neighborhood representatives and community partners from Sacramento City and Sacramento County, serves as a liaison between local government and provides a unifying voice for neighborhoods. SCAN meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Hart Senior Center, 915 27th Street, Sacramento.
The organization provides a nonpartisan forum for discussion of neighborhood concerns; supports the organizational efforts of current and emerging neighborhood associations; and maintains communications among neighborhoods on issues of concern, such as: planning updates, rezoning proposals, community problems, variance requests, disposal of public property, traffic flow, safety, and other government and/or private actions which would affect the county/city residents. In addition, SCAN monitors programs which will benefit residents, provides opportunities for political respresentatives and candidates to meet with area residents, and sponsors community workshops dealing with safety, code enforcement and asset building.
For more than 10 years, the Sacramento County Alliance of Neighborhoods has worked to make the overall community and each neighborhood a better place to live. Neighborhood Associations within Sacramento County are welcome and encouraged to become members. Annual dues are $25 per year. Additional members and interested individuals can receive SCAN mailings for $12 per year. If you would like to become a member of SCAN, come to the next meeting on the 4th Wednesday of the month or send a request for membership to: SCAN, P.O.Box 191257, Sacramento, CA 95819.
