Sandalwood

Meeting Minutes

February 24, 2000

The February Sandalwood Neighbors meeting was called to order by President, Maureen Wilson, at 7:00 p.m. at Brookview Elementary School, with ten members present.

Reading of the minutes of the previous meeting (the second Neighborhood Watch organizational meeting) was dispensed with by Secretary, Barbara Lanz.

Treasurer, Pat Atwood, who was absent due to her husband's illness, sent a report of the new bank balance.

Maureen had received a letter from the Greater Arlington Civic Council, Inc announcing a meeting Thursday, March 2nd at Regency Square Branch Library (6-7:00 p.m. committees and/or informal discussion, 7-8:45 p.m. board meeting). Members were asked to attend as topics of concern to us will be discussed.

Jean Pausche showed a newspaper article announcing that as of January 10th homeowners over 65 are eligible for an additional $25,000 homestead exemption. Contact the property appraiser by March 2 if you are interested.

Maureen announced that we are still in need of additional block captains, please call Jennifer Ring at 641-6462 to join the Neighborhood Watch.

Maureen reported that there had been a house fire in Sandalwood. The family lost everything and has been given clothes. They are fine now, but will need more help when they are able to move back into their home. The Beachwood Civic Association saw our report of the situation on the web page and has graciously offered their help.

JaxPride Week is February 26 - March 5, 2000. There is graffiti on the fountain on Sandalwood Blvd. After discussion, a motion was made by Betty Keuhl to buy paint and whatever is needed to beautify the fountain. The motion was seconded and passed. A work party will assemble at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 4th. Volunteers are needed, please call Maureen at 641-2154.

Maureen was asked to follow up to make certain Sandalwood is on the city's list to contract out maintenance of the main boulevard islands.

Members were asked to call Maureen if they know of any break-ins so that she can bring them up at ShAdCo meetings. Sheriff, Nat Glover, will be at the Regency Mall Saturday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. to meet with the public. Jennifer Ring is following up on the Neighborhood Watch sign installation.

Flyers will be distributed announcing our April meeting.

The next regular meeting will be on Thursday, March 23, 2000, at 7:00 p.m., at Brookview Elementary School.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
