The Iota Eta Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity at Western Connecticut State University has many close connections to Sandy Hook / Newtown community. This devastating tragedy took the lives of 26 individuals, 20 of which were children under the age of 8. This happened just down the road from our university and we are still in shock that it happened in our backyard. In fact, one of our university professors lost his daughter in the shooting and the university is overwhelmed with grief. Last night at our holiday dinner, the chapter developed a campus-wide, community-wide, and international fundraising campaign for the victims’ families by selling wristbands and holding a number of fundraising events over the next month. My hope is that this can be a province and international fundraising effort. One of our fundraising efforts is to sell “Sigma Chi Supports Sandy Hook” wristbands for $5.00 each. Through the small grassroots effort, over 30 people have committed to purchasing 70 wristbands within the first two hours of advertisement. My hope is that we are able to sell 5,000 wristbands and donate $25,000 to the families of those affected by this horrible tragedy. With your help, we will be able to help and make a difference in the lives of an entire community. Please visit the following website to learn more information about the fundraising campaign by the Iota Eta Chapter: http://wcsusigmachi.weebly.com Thank you very much for your generosity… I am sure that the victims’ families are very appreciative of your support and contribution.
