To maintain a healthy forest in our park it is necessary to periodically plant new trees according to City Forester Teresa Proscewicz. Several community volunteers met with Ms. Proscewicz to identify trees appropriate for Rustic Canyon Park. Basic guidelines included drought tolerant and native species. Trees in the Rustic Canyon Tree Palette include the following: Bigleaf Maple, White Alder, California Sycamore, Live Oak, Lemonade Berry, Sugar Bush, Arroyo Willow, Blue Elderberry, California Bay, and Redwood. Other hardy trees identified as appropriate to our climate include: Ginkgo, Tulip, Tipu, and Chinese Flame.
The planting of Sycamores and Bigleaf Maples in the area in front of the clubhouse is pending as of this writing. Identification of other areas/trees is an ongoing process. If you would like to participate, drop a line to our P.O. Box, or send us an email at info@smcca.org.
