Board Minutes - March 4, 2003

Highlights of Minutes

A quorum was present. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.
1. Introductions.
2. Approval of Minutes - The minutes of the meeting of February 4, 2003 were approved.
3. Treasurers' report - Current balances are the following; checking-$1569.37; savings-$1598.12; savings certificate- $11514.43. Total = $14681.92l.
4. Presidents' report/ Old business.
-Nominating committee. Barbara Archibald reported that we now have 22 out of 25 positions on the board filled.
-VNOC. Alejandro Ortiz reported that all of the necessary budget estimates to complete priority setting have not yet been received from the City Engineer..
-Tree Planting. George reported that he is still trying to get a date from Recreation and Parks for the planned tree planting at Rustic Canyon Park.
-Median island at Mesa and W. Channel road landscaping was discussed. George had an email exchange with Nancy Frey, the adjacent resident who planted the median. Because of high bee population, she is reluctant to make any changes. However, the large flowering plant will be removed to Topanga Canyon as soon as possible.
5. Quality of life issues. [see photo]
A very comprehensive briefing by Street Use Inspector Rodney W. Lucas and our local inspector, Karen Bowie, was presented. Street Use Inspectors are empowered to write citations for illegal use of public property including for leaving trash cans in the street for over 24-hours after pickup. Ms. Bowie mentioned that a task force with the LAPD and City Neighborhood Prosecutor is planning a crackdown on illegal leafblower use.
6. LADWP Green LA program briefing is set for March 27 at 6 pm. This meeting has to do with pollution reduction and energy conservation.
8. Other Business.
-EIDC Policy letter. George reported that a letter had been drafted from the Pacific Palisades Community Council to Councilmember Miscikowski regarding location filming in our neighborhoods. George will email the letter to all board members tomorrow, for review.
-LAPD Community Alert System. The LAPD Community Alert System was discussed for informational purposes. LAPD is establishing an email notification list.
-430 Mesa Road. Member Philippa Murthy and resident Francie Rehwald brought up the proposed 1700 sq. ft. remodel at 430 Mesa Road that will cut off the ocean view of neighbors across the street and will be visable from the beach. The impact on parking from the expanded dwelling is another concern. George will check whether a coastal permit is required.
10. Membership.
There are 92 returning members and 79 new members so far.
