Each fall, the Schnitzelburg #1 Citizen award is given to a person for their service and dedication to the Schnitzelburg community. This prestigious award is presented at the annual sauerkraut dinner held at St. Elizabeth's cafeteria in November. Nominations are submitted to a committee for consideration. The winner is announced the evening of the dinner.
