Aug 2009 Neighborhood Crimes

Aug 24, 2009

It has become apparent that over the past several months more crimes have occurred within our neighborhood and the greater Moon Valley area. I did some checking on the Phoenix Police Department website in search of crime records for our area. They do have detailed record statistics directly related to our neighborhood and others. I tried to do a comparison and found that the past couple of months information had not been updated, thus I could only compare the same monthly period of time for each of the past four or five years. Nothing seemed to be too far out of order as for looking at the same group of months from year to year. Other neighborhoods compared equally the same. No large percentage of change.

However,,, given the past several months only, we all know from talking with others in our area ~ that the number of crimes has increased far more then normal. Everything from car and home break-ins to burglaries and graffiti in the area has become a normal topic of conversation for many of our neighbors. The statistics don?’t reflect the last several months. Also please keep in mind that I?’m hearing from some of the neighbors that they didn?’t or don?’t report the crime because ?– the police don?’t come out, or their insurance rates will go up if there?’s more crime reported.

We need to act as a group of interested citizens in our neighborhood. We need to report crime that is in progress to the 9-1-1 emergency number and if we see something that is out of the ordinary call crime stop at 602-262-6151 and let the dispatcher know what is going on in our area. They will provide a police officer when needed to help investigate if there is foul play.

We need to collect our own statistics in an effort to show our city councilman and the police department that we have an important crime issue that?’s going on in our area. Together we can gather enough information about the increase to help get a police officer to drive through the neighborhood more often. Please take a few minutes and think back over the last several months or this year and get this information passed on and collected. You can email any of the officers Janet, Diane, Renee or shadowrockgoldkey@gmail.com . Please include dates, times, and the description of the event. Include sightings of strange out of the ordinary events you?’ve seen as well.
