Feburary Meeting

Feb 18, 2007

Feb Meeting overview!

NO these are not the minutes of the meeting, however I am providing an overview of the discussion and topics that were kicked around so others will have some idea of what they missed by not being at the neighborhood meeting.

We had a good number of our neighbors present and the overall meeting went very well in the limited two hours of time allowed.

Zoning:
The topic covering the ??œuse permit??? change at that AJ shopping center to allow a secondhand thrift store to open was talked about. Lars provided a history and overview of the shopping center buildings and ownership and some detail as to what has been happening for the past week or two. It was mentioned that as of Friday 3pm, the zoning officer continued to take this matter under advisement and that no decision had been made as of that point in time.

Basically there are only two directions that can be taken. Do nothing and let things go whatever way is decided on by the zoning office. Or focus on what we need to do for an appeal if necessary. Several members will continue to monitor the situation at the zoning office, and will also look into what process is required for an appeal should it be required. A meeting will be scheduled for this coming Saturday February 24th at 1pm for the purpose of the continued discussion of this matter. It is important to note that individuals should continue to voice their personal opinion on the topic however the association will decide on the specific course of action based on the zoning decision when it becomes available.

Block Watch:
The Block Watch topic was covered with some interesting detail regarding the signs, locations, prices, etc. Seems that there is more to a block watch program then meets the eye; however alot of the heavy lifting and legwork has already been started and now begins the necessary door to door signatures required for the sign placements. There will be more to come on this topic at the next meeting. Thanks to Mischa for getting the information together running with this project. And if there is anyone who wants to help by ??œsponsoring a sign??? please contact the association, Mischa or myself (Andy).

Green Arrow:
Left hand turn arrow at Central and T-bird seems to continue to be a problem. One of our neighbors had an accident at the intersection on Valentines Day. This topic was talked about in other meetings and it looks like a problem that should have been addressed a long time ago with the city and getting this accomplished. There have been numerous accidents at that intersection with property damage, cars wracked, and most important injuries. We don??™t want to have a neighbor or friend visiting get killed there! We need to find out the procedure that the city wants us to follow in getting this long time problem ended. More to come at the next meeting on March 24th. Until we can get a green arrow installed ~ it would be well advised to turn left into the area onto 2nd street, and avoid the T-bird & Central Ave.

Thunderbird Wall Painting:
The T-bird Block Wall painting problem was addressed and talked about. Tom had indicated and provided information about the total estimated of paint needed. There is some concern about the side block-fence and smaller walls that continue around several of the houses located on the corner of the streets turning into the neighborhood area. Tom and others feel that the painting should ??œcontinue in like color??? so as to provide continuity at these entrances. In several of these areas the block fence or wall is the same color of the home located on the corner and the resident may disapprove of a color change that fails to match that color of their house.

The color of choice was talked about, as Tom indicated that the darker color would help hide any imperfections in the wall itself. I (Andy) also have to agree with Tom and had provided several color samples to select from. We all agreed that the color selected should be the same color that the city uses for their block walls. By using the same color we felt it would be helpful in future maintenance allowing the ??œcity??? to cover over any graffiti with matching color of paint. I will continue to work with the city and get final information about their color choices that they use. It was determined that a color match should be the same as what the city had used on the newly added block-wall on the north side of T-bird and running west of Central Ave. along the frontage road. It would appear to be a light brown/tan color.
