Shadow Rock-Gold Key Neighborhood Association

January 2007 Meeting held

Jan 15, 2007

The first meeting of the year for the Neighborhood Association was held on Saturday January 13th 2007. Jack Doody provided an overview of the past history of our neighborhood that included several of the problems that the residents had issues with at that time and how the association with the help of active residents worked together with the city parks department and hikers to reach a solution that was favorable by all parties.

Several topics of discussion were of interest by all who attended. Lars provided information about the City of Phoenix grant program. Members attending the meeting considered the need for a block watch program to be revisited, and efforts to improve the overall for security in our area was talked about. Those attending the meeting felt that city grant money could be better used in some of the other areas of Phoenix. We will address our neighborhood block watch program in more detail at the next meeting with our residents.

The next topic of meeting was that of the block wall fence along the south side of Thunderbird Road. As everyone agreed that area that was painted light yellow just didn?’t seem to be acceptable in its overall appearance when driving by. The efforts of those who did the painting of the wall are appreciated however it seemed to have fallen short with the color of choice that was used. Everyone at the meeting wanted to see this project addressed once again and perhaps a better color could be used. Several of the residents volunteered their personal equipment to help with the painting when the time comes. This project will need several (as many as can help) volunteers to once again paint this block fence. The information on color and type of stain or paint will be acquired by the next meeting and presented to those who are attending for their thoughts and selection. Several of the residents at the meeting said they will go door to door and get written permission from the property owners.

Members attending the meeting agreed that we should look at having another neighborhood potluck party. It seemed everyone enjoyed that last one that was held, so we need to be thinking about the time and place again. If anyone has any ideas please bring them up at the next meeting.

The next meeting will be held at 1 pm on Saturday February 17th at the North Mountain Visitor Center 12950 N. 7th Street.
