Neighbors Make Fire Save Story from April 2002

Feb 14, 2008

Jean dropped by the dumpster to leave her trash Sunday when she noticed smoke wafting out of the dumpster house. Quickly calling 9-1-1, Boulder Fire was able to put the flames out. The Telluride Place garbage shack would have been demolished and likely would have spread to the nearby paint storage.....

Many thanks to Mike and Jean for their early detection, early 9-1-1 call, and for rolling the dumpster out of the dumpster house before the structure was affected.

Neighbors can prevent dumpster fires by storing ashes from grills and fireplaces with a metal can outdoors for three days prior to discarding ash in a dumpster. Embers can "lay down" for a day or two and remain hidden within cool ashes.
