America?’s Main Street has a new tradition-don?’t miss the second annual Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon! We are excited about this year?’s event which will take place May 20, 2007. We want to take this opportunity to share with you information about this year?’s event.
The mission of the Colfax Marathon Partnership, which is the non-profit organization that manages the race, is to produce an annual community-based, world-class running event that: Brings positive attention and focus to the Colfax Avenue corridor, promotes health and fitness among youth and adults, draws national attention to the region and benefits the Colorado Kids charity organization.
The marathon begins in Aurora at the Aurora Sports Park, travels past the State Capitol Building in Denver, and ends in Lakewood at Colorado Mills. The official charity of the marathon Colorado Kids, an organization dedicated to preventing obesity and promoting health and fitness to school-aged children. The Aurora, Denver and JeffCo public school district foundations are the primary beneficiaries of these funds.
The Colorado Colfax Marathon exceeded expectations its inaugural year attracting more than 5,000 registered runners. This year, we expect that number to increase by ten percent. In addition, 2,400 kids participated in the Kids Marathon Milers program (48 schools in Denver, Arapahoe and Jefferson counties) and we expect that number to grow by more than 50 percent (5,000 kids).
Residents are encouraged to participate in the race or one of the many events such as the Team for Colorado Kids, the walker program, or as a volunteer. Anyone interested can volunteer to assist on race day, May 20, 2007. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and be honored guests at the volunteer appreciation party following the race.
And, if you aren?’t interested in running or volunteering , please plan to provide your support on race day by cheering the runners as the race down Colfax Avenue.
