On September 25, city officials will present their plan for a proposed basketweave stop sign pattern for our neighborhood at a 6 p.m. meeting at City Hall. This is your chance to learn where stop signs would be posted if the City Council approves the plan, and to comment on the plan. A basket-weave pattern provides a stop sign on every other block in each direction; the maximum distance between stop signs in either the north-south or east-west direction is two blocks.
After this month?’s meeting, copies of the basketweave plan will be available upon request from Laura Adler, engineering program coordinator. Laura is the contact for all questions and comments about the plan. She can be reached at 952-924-2690 or ladler@stlouispark.org.
The basketweave plan was first discussed at an informational meeting on June 26. Feedback at that meeting included concerns about:
- The number of uncontrolled intersections within the neighborhood.
- Cut through traffic avoiding
traffic on Wooddale Avenue and Lake Street.
- Higher levels of traffic going to Groves Academy via the frontage road (there is a related request to make Utica Avenue a southbound one-way street between Minnetonka Boulevard and Groves Academy).
- Traffic to and from Holy Family Church and issues with theflashing traffic signal.
- Perceived speeding within the neighborhood.
