Walking Tours Hanford Village

Posted in: Driving Park Civic

The Columbus Landmarks Foundation is adding Hanford Village to their collection of neighborhoods for which they provide informative walking tours.

HANFORD VILLAGE  Sunday, July 21, 2-4 p.m. >>GET TICKETS
Incorporated as the Village of Hanford in 1909 and developed in 1946 and marketed to African American veterans, Hanford Village is a cohesive neighborhood of Cape Cod type homes. The development offered early opportunity for African Americans to buy newly constructed, quality housing for middle class families in Columbus. In the 1960s, when I-70 was routed through the neighborhood, it became less visible but still has rich stories and heritage to share. Learn about the Carver Subdivision, the former Hanford Village Park and where several Tuskegee Airmen once lived. Columbus Landmarks Foundation was recently awarded a Certified Local Government Grant to prepare a nomination of this historic district for the National Register of Historic Places, so we will have lots of interesting information to share!

Meet at St. Mark’s Baptist Church, 1993 Kenton Avenue.
