Thhe neighbor feature this issue highlights Dave and Shirley Smith of 3818 Oregon Drive, (#46 on the map). They have been residents of Southcliff since 1998. Dave and Shirley have two grown children, both living in the Seattle area, and one grandchild. They live alone, now. . . following the feast last year by a greedy blue heron that systematically disposed of their fifteen koi.
Dave is a licensed architect and the Assistant Director of Capital Development & Planning for Washington State University. He has been responsible for overseeing the planning and construction of WSU's Salmon Creek Campus. For the past two years he has been a jurist for the Vancouver/Clark County Community Pride Design Award Program and recently was appointed to the Vancouver Planning Commission. (I have asked him to be a future speaker at one of our meetings.)
Shirley works as Bereavement Counselor with Stepping Stones, a service of Hospice Southwest. In her spare time, Shirley enjoys being a mother, and maybe more - being a first time grandmother. Please say hello to them when they visit the playground with their granddaughter.
