Plant a Rainbow in Your Garden

Iris is the Greek word for rainbow because they come in a wide range of colors. Southend United Neighbors will hold an Iris exchange some time in late July or early August. If you like Iris and would like to collect some other colors to add to your rainbow, just bring a few of yours to trade. If you don't have any and would like some, come - there are usually some left to give away. If you don't like the ones you have , bring them to us we will put them to good use.

Take a picture of the iris you will want to exchange as they are blooming so everyone will know what color they are. After they bloom cut back all stems. In early or mid July cut the leaves in a fan shape about 6 to 8 inches high. When you dig them, wash off all dirt and debris and allow to dry.

Iris are wonderful plants for those of us with "yellow thumbs". They are hardy, virtually care free and beautiful in the spring. Their tall sword shaped leaves give texture to your garden and make delightful backround for other flowers.
