Last week I helped launch an initiative called Indy Homeless Connect, an event designed to get Indianapolis residents and businesses more engaged in the fight to end and prevent homelessness in our community.
Indy Homeless Connect is a day of caring and outreach where service providers, with the help of volunteers like you, will provide a number of services to those experiencing homelessness, including medical care, food, vision care, legal advice, free phone calls to family, and winter clothing.
Organized by the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention and a collaboration of many great service providers, Indy Homeless Connect will be December 13 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Indianapolis at the Indiana Convention Center. And we need your involvement.
While some services at Connect must be performed by professionals, there are a number of areas where we need volunteer support -- and lots of it. We are also seeking donations of packaged food items and winter wear to provide to the homeless on Dec. 13.
Please visit www.indyhomelessconnect.com to learn more about the event, make a donation or sign up to volunteer. You may also call 630-0853 ext. 209 for more information.
Indy Homeless Connect is your opportunity to come together with your fellow Indianapolis citizens and reach out to our homeless neighbors during the upcoming cold winter days, when their struggles can become even greater.
Homelessness touches all of us in some way, and it will take a community-wide commitment to end homelessness in Indianapolis.
Please join me for Indy Homeless Connect on Dec. 13.
Sincerely,
Bart Peterson
