As you may be aware, at the City Council meeting on December 19th, the proposed rezoning of the property at 71st and Metcalf (Katie's Row) was referred back to the Planning Commission, with the recommendation that Southmoor Gardens neighbors work with the developer to come up with a compromise plan. A number of people worked very hard to protect the single-family status of this property, and further effort will be required. Which is why it seemed a good time to ease back some and have a bit of a diversion.

There is a TV set in our designated room at the Community Center which we can use to show a (taped) movie. Currently we plan to show the film, "Chicken Run". We had hoped for the animated film "Madagascar", but there are 99 requests ahead of us for the tape version. We plan to have pop and popcorn. There will be a short business meeting first, and then we can sit back and relax.

One thing to think about before our meeting: the various activities connected with representing our view before the City Council showed the need for a communications network for our neighborhood ?— both phone and e-mail, and, when needed personal visits. We could use more block representatives, to cover streets that have none and to assist where there is representation. If you've been in the neighborhood for any length of time, you know that, generally speaking, ours is a very quiet one and that the recent flurry of activity is quite extraordinary. So, mostly, being a block representative would involve ~ occasionally ~ making phone calls or sending e-mail to your particular block, and, in a pinch, delivering a flyer when time is short to share information. Another function that would be appreciated is passing along news from your part of the neighborhood, such as births and deaths and other exceptional events.

An addition, our neighborhood chairman has been functioning for three years or so without a co-chairman ?— meaning there is no back-up person. Generally, this would involve attending Executive Committee meetings (all the neighborhood chairmen) every other month, and stepping in when needed to conduct a meeting (also every other month).
Just some things to think about, in case someone would like to become more involved.
Hope to see you for our fun night in January.
