May Meeting
The meeting this month will be on May 18th, at 7 p.m. at the Overland Park Community Center (87th and Lamar) in Room 204. (note the room change)
Our speaker will be Officer Royce Harms, from the Overland Park Police Department, who will bring us up to date with regard to the Neighborhood Watch program.
Also on the program will be a discussion of our plans for the neighborhood picnic, sometime in June (that's right, folks, it's not that far off now). As usual, we welcome suggestions as to activities that might be of interest. At this moment, we are thinking of holding this event on the second Saturday of June (June 10th), but the exact date will be decided at the meeting, so you'll want to watch for the signs announcing it. Myrtle Vincent has again been kind enough to let us use her vacant lot on Walmer, between 69th and 71st Streets. We wont have the fire equipment this year, but will have a demonstration by a Police Dept. dog handler, planned for 1:30 that afternoon. Because the picnic lasts about three hours (12:30-3:30) and is outside, it would be difficult to make this a regular potluck, but we would welcome side dishes or desserts, if anyone is so inclined. As in the past, there will be a 25-cent charge for drinks.
Neighborhood Garage Sale
This will be the weekend of May 19th and 20th. You can be open either day or both days. Again, Clement will post signs identifying your street, and we are asking for a $5 donation to cover the advertising. Call Clement Wagner, at 262-5893, to make arrangements for your location.
A Look Back
We were very pleased to have Ruth Hamel and other staff members from the Building Safety Division, to educate us and answer our questions with regard to building codes, permits, and working with contractors. Between her presenters and our questioners, we pretty much covered a house from top to bottom (roof and foundation), front to back (driveway and deck), inside and out (water heater and siding). If you have a question about the need for a permit or whether a contractor is licensed to do business in Overland Park, do check it out first. Call Building Safety at 895-6231, or look up contractors ojnlthe Johnson County website (jocoks.org) which offers a list of licensed contractors.
Katie's Court Project
As of this writing, the developer will again be appearing before the Planning Commission on May 22nd, with 1:30 PM being die opening time of the session.
Congratulations!
Proud parents Ann and Dan Thomasset, on 69th Terrace, wanted to share the news of the arrival of their daughter, Lillie Ann, who was born on January 11th.
