In Texas, polluting our environment is a crime?—with heavy penalties. Examples:
- Intentionally dumping used motor oil. Penalties: fine between $1,000?—$50,000 and up to 5 years in prison for each day the violation occurred.
- Illegal dumping of garbage. Penalties: fine between $200?—$4,000 depending on the amount and type of waste. Additionally, up to a year?’s jail time or loss of vehicle use is also possible.
- Knowingly disposing/discarding a lead-acid or ?“car?” battery, except at an authorized collection or recycling center. Penalties: Up to $4,000 in fines and up to 1 year jail time.
