Speak Soon on VIA's Recommended Service Decrease/Elimination

Jul 24, 2002

At our Jul meeting, a VIA representative explained the 2 alternative plans for our area, as part of VIA?’s Comprehensive Service Plan (CSP). The only options VIA suggested for the area within the SWCA boundaries were to either:
decrease regular bus service from the current range of (every 30 to 120 minutes) to ONLY once-an-hour OR
eliminate bus service altogether, except for an hourly bus route on Old Pearsall Road (Five Palms to Ray Ellison).
VIA has no increased east-west service planned along Old Pearsall Road, as we had asked for?—to help the growing number of residents get to the growing number of businesses and the new city SW Service Center soon opening.
VIA is currently holding public input meetings around town to get reaction. One at Johnston Branch Library on Jul 17, had a good turn-out of vocal riders, but more feedback may be necessary. Even if YOU do not ride the bus regularly, imagine the impact cutting this bus service will have for our area. The next public meetings fairly close to us are:
- Wed, Jul 24, 6 PM, McCreless Library
- Mon, Jul 29, 6 PM, Palo Alto College Band Hall.
You can also contact VIA and express your opinion 362-2007, or FAX 362-2572, or e-mail ?“CSP@viainfo.net?”. VIA will supposedly consider all feedback and revise the CSP as they deem necessary, then seek the VIA Board approval this fall; with implementation by next summer.
