More Housing Projects In Our Area?
Just before and after our Sep mtg, SWCA received notices of 4 more proposed tax-exempt housing projects in (or very close to) our area. Three were at the intersection of Old Pearsall Rd and SW Military Dr.; one was about 1/2 mile further west.
Two of the proposals went before the Bexar County Housing Finance Committee (made up of all the county commissioners) on Tue, Sep 30. We were there to speak against it (because of the tax exemption and such close proximity [2.5 miles] to Heatherwilde Estates). Surely, there are other parts of the county and TX that might need such projects; they all don?’t have to be targeted in our area! Thankfully, Commissioner Tejeda did not support those 2 projects and they were denied. The county is establishing policies and procedures for handling tax-exempt future requests.
The other 2 projects were pre-applications for 2004. Our input was due to the state by Oct 24. We responded on time, opposing the projects, raising basically the same issues we?’d raised to the county. We will follow-up on all.
