You Must Be Registered by Apr 3rd, to Vote in May 3rd City Council and SWISD Elections
Sat, May 3rd, are the elections for Mayor, City Council, and the SWISD Board. If you are new to the area or don?’t vote regularly, you may not be properly registered. Call 335-6625 to find out. You can get registration cards at any public library branch, but they must be postmarked by Apr 3, to vote in the May 3rd elections. (If you want to vote early, you must be registered at least 30 days before the day you want to vote.) Early Voting runs from Apr 16?—29, at various locations
CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS: On May 3rd polls will be open from 7 AM?—7 PM. In the SWCA area, precinct 1039 will vote at Indian Creek Elementary School, and precinct 1061 at Sky Harbour Elementary School. For Mayor and Council, if any candidate does NOT receive at least 51% of the vote, there will be a run-off election of the two candidates getting the most votes. That run-off election is scheduled for Tue, May 27th.
Mayoral Candidates: Three candidates are running. In the order their names will appear on the ballot, they are: Shirley Thompson, Ed Garza, and Michael Idrogo.
District 4 Candidates: Because our current Councilman is not running, one of these five will be our new Councilman. They are, in the order their names will appear on the ballot: John Freeman, David Fernandez, Phil Cortez, Joe Montoya, and Richard Perez.
SWISD BOARD ELECTIONS: On May 3rd, the ONLY place people in precincts 1039 & 1061 can vote for school board candidates is at Indian Creek Elementary School, 7 AM?—7 PM. Six candidates are running for two positions. The two people getting the most votes will win; they don?’t need to get a majority of the votes. There will be NO run-off election for the school board. SWISD Candidates, in the order their names will appear on the ballot are: Joe Kierstead, Carole Abitz, David Mahaffey, Ida Sudolcan, Toni Bazaldua, and Sylvester Vasquez. (Mr. Vasquez is a current SWISD board member.) You can vote for one or two candidates. Early Voting also runs from Apr 16?—29, but ONLY at SWISD Central Office on normal business days during normal hours. Info: 622-4300, ext 103.
