A few races from both the Republican and Democratic Parties were not settled in their Mar 9th primaries. Therefore, run-off elections will be held on Tue, Apr 13. Early Voting runs from Mon, Apr 5 to Fri, Apr 9.
You do NOT have to have voted in the Mar 9 primary to vote in the Run-Off elections. However, if you DID vote in a party primary on Mar 9, you can NOT vote in the other party?’s Run-Off elections.
Run-Off races of particular importance to our precincts 1039 & 1061 are:
Democratic:
- District 117 State Representative. The run-off is between Ken Mireles and David Leibowitz. [Current District 117 Representative is Ken Mercer (R). He had no opposition in the primary.]
- For County Precinct 1 Commissioner. The run-off is between incumbent Robert Tejeda and Sergio Rodriguez. [There will be no Republican candidate for this position, so whoever wins the Democratic run-off will most likely be our next County Commissioner.]
Republican:
- US Congressional District 28. The run-off is between Francisco ?“Quico?” Canseco and James F. Hopson. [The SWCA area just became part of District 28 on Jan 1st, following redistricting. Current Congressman is Ciro Rodriguez. He is also the Democratic nominee for that race.]
In Texas, there is no party registration, so you can vote in any party?’s primary (ies)?—for that election cycle. However, as mentioned above, you can NOT switch and vote in two parties?’ primaries during the same election cycle.
The winners of these Run-Offs will run in the general election scheduled for Nov 2nd. In the general election you can vote for any candidate from any party.
