SWCA Book Donations More Than Doubled!

Last fall, SWCA members voted to donate books to the three elementary schools and Junior High within our boundaries to recognize their success at being designated RECOGNIZED schools by the state. We voted to donate $25 for each year the applicable school received RECOGNIZED status. The total amount of the donation was $175. However, because our member purchasing the books (Carole Abitz) is also a docent at the Institute of Texan Cultures, working with the Institute, she was able to get the books at a substantial discount. Additionally, the Institute?’s gift shop manager went the ?“extra mile?”, asking a publisher if it might provide some free books for this worthy effort. In a great and unexpected gesture, that publisher, Eakin Press of Austin, donated all of the books Carole had indicated for FREE! Therefore, the actual retail value of the books donated is well over $350! We are very grateful to Janet Weber at the Institute, and Tom Messer at Eakin Press, for giving that extra effort.
