On Jan 22, Councilman Martin?’s office held a community meeting to get input on how to spend $180K in funds for projects at Millers Pond. We thank John & Judy Adams, Dale Armwood, and Sandra Gamboa for participating. SWCA had previously submitted input for the May ?’99 bond election. Feedback received asked for more parking, more picnic facilities, more water & restroom facilities, more bleachers and better fields. P&R will hold a follow-up meeting in about 3 months.
At the same meeting, a representative from Public Works explained the problems with cleaning out (desilting) Millers Pond itself. The city has a de-silting machine, but learned at Woodlawn Lake that it doesn?’t work well when debris jams it up. They will have to drain the pond (while protecting the fish, etc) then bulldoze the 40K cubic yards of silt out. They estimate it would cost $95K and suggest Councilman Martin provide the money from the District 4 discretionary funds.
