Cell phone providers continue to propose new towers in the Desert Uplands to serve their customers. There are severe limits by the federal government on the ability of local jurisdictions to control the placement of these towers. We have been fairly successful in arranging for disguised or ?“minimum visibility?” towers in this area. A cell phone provider recently proposed that the city lease space at the water well and pumping station on Waterbury Road for a tower disguised as a 35?’ tall Saguaro Cactus. Many of the nearby residents opposed the plan at a recent meeting. The city says that they have had no followup contact from the applicant.
