Hawes Loop Trail Now Open

Jul 06, 2006

The Hawes Loop Trail connecting the north end of Hawes Road to the Tonto National Forest north of Las Sendas Mountain is now open for pedestrian and mountain bike use. This old trail crossed private property that has now been developed, blocking the trail. With the cooperation of the Blandford Companies and the Las Sendas HOA, the City of Mesa and the Mesa District of the Tonto National Forest, an easement for a bypass trail higher on the hillside to reconnect Hawes Road to the Forest was dedicated to the City of Mesa for use as a linear park. The trail was completed in June of 2005 but the signs to identify it are not yet complete. Look for the trail on the right about 1/2 mile north of Thomas Road. Excellent views of the Upper Sonoran Desert vegetation and the entire east valley are possible all along this one mile long section of trail as it climbs above the housing developments below.
