Welcome to 2000! I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful holiday season.
First of all, I would like to welcome all of our new neighbors. We do have a homeowners association that is in the beginning stages. I would like to request that everyone in Springdale take the time to participate in our neighborhood events and get involved. We had some very successful events in 1999 and are looking forward to moving to the next level in 2000.
It has been a while since our last meeting, so let me take a moment to review our 1999 Springdale Homeowners Association (HOA) happenings for those of you who are new to Springdale.
In July, we held two meetings to determine the need for a homeowners association. It was determined that a need for community involvement was crucial. At the second meeting that month, officers were elected.
Springdale's HOA Officers are:
President - Julie Brown
Vice President - Todd Little
Treasuer - Darren Ratajski
Secretary - Susan Chisom
We also developed several committees during that meeting. They are: Seasonal Committee, Directory Committee, Yard Sale Committee and the Newsletter Committee. You can find out more information about these committees in the Association Information link found on Springdale's homepage.
During September, the Springdale HOA had a meeting at Senoia City Hall with guest speaker Police Chief Ben Thomas. Discussion was focused around organizing a Neighborhood Watch Program. As you all know, we do have signs posted at the entrance stating this. However, as Chief Thomas relayed at that meeting, we need to obtain volunteers for this program. We will be meeting soon to determine those volunteers. If you are interested, please contact any of your officers or e-mail me at jbrown@hotsheet.com.
Another event that turned out to be a huge success was the bi-annual neighborhood yard sale in October. I would like to commend the yard sale committee for the work that they put into this event. It was outstanding! This yard sale is planned for Springdale in the spring and again in the fall. It just so happened that the weekend chosen in October was also the weekend that the town of Gay (approximately 15 miles south of Senoia) held their festival (which draws a huge crowd). Because of that and all of the signs placed in stretegic locations and the advertising in local newspapers, it was estimated that we had a traffic flow well into the hundreds that day. Many of our residents did very well. The next yard sale will be planned for the same weekend as Gay's Cotton Pickin' Festival in the spring to get the traffic flow again. Start planning your items to sale now.
During the holiday season, the Christmas Committee met several times to discuss decorating the entrance. I think they did a fantastic job considering there was no money for them to buy decorations with. The committee members personally funded the decorations. Thank you guys for the beautiful entryway.
With all of that said and done, I need to inform everyone that I will be turning the gavel over to our Vice President, Todd Little at our next meeting. Due to numerous obligations including serving on the Senoia Planning Commission, school, full time job and a multitude of other meetings that I attend, it just would not be possible for me to serve as President of the homeowners association any longer. I feel with the last several months of not being able to serve you with the aggressiveness that I had when we first began that the association would prosper better with someone else leading you rather than everyone waiting for me to have the time to get this association off the ground and running. I will still be very involved with the association and available as a resource for anything the association needs. I would like to thank everyone who got involved and supported everything that the association took on.
Some of the material that will be discussed at our next meeting will be:
Association Website
What we can do to obtain official
status from Gus Wood
Fences
Neighborhood Watch Volunteers
Passing of the gavel to Todd Little
I will send out a notice for the date, time and place for this meeting (probably around the middle of February). If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to e-mail me at jbrown@hotsheet.com.
Thank you,
Julie
