The New Oxford Hotel Ballrooms

Mar 30, 1999

The building that now houses the new Oxford Hotel Ballrooms has led a quiet life until now. It was built sometime between 1915 and 1920 and has been described only as a 20th Century commercial design. It was used primarily as a warehouse, at one time operating as a "Big House" where purchases made in bulk were repackeged to resalable sizes. When the Historic District was organized in 1988, this building wasn't even considered a contributing structure with most of the front facade covered over by solid concrete panels. When they were removed in the early 1990's, the attractive frontage you now see was revealed.
The Oxford Hotel took on renovation of the building. Besides the two art galleries and offices, there are two elegant ballrooms, one on the street level and one on the second floor. The floors of the ballrooms are made of the old Celebrity Lanes Bowling Alleys that were located on Colorado Blvd. The balcony in the first floor ballroom is lined with wrought iron railings designed with the Oxford Hotel monogram.
An elegant setting calls for elegant service - a standard for the Oxford Hotel. The food service in the ballrrom also lives up to this reputation with service provided by Epicurean Catering.
